Sto's Woods

Located on Cadillac Avenue south of Shell Mound Park, Sto's Woods honors the infectious enthusiasm that John Stowers offered to DIBS and to the many birders who visited the island during his lifetime. DIBS purchased the lot in 2018 following an outpouring of generous donations made by friends and family in Sto's memory.

The tall pines and hardwoods in this area took a hard hit during Hurricane Sally 2020 but the habitat is recovering after careful cutting of damaged trees. The trails and contemplation areas are open once again for birds and birders.
