Protected Places
Colberg Family Reserve
Located on the south side of Cadillac Avenue between Shell Mound Park and the Goat Trees, two adjoining wet lots were
gifted to DIBS by the Gross and Colberg families to honor their father, Dick Colberg. Dick was described as an ardent
outdoorsman and passed on his appreciation of nature to his children. These properties will be preserved and protected in
perpetuity under a conservation easement with a local land trust organization.
While these lots are usually too wet for safe passage, observations of bird activity in the trees can be made from the road.
The grassy lot just to the west of the preserve is a safe spot to observe into the side of the wet lots. Often, a Green Heron
can be observed in the area if birder approaches quietly.
